ABOUT JAVON

JaVon Ophelia Butler is a native of Lutcher, La. She is the daughter of the late Joseph Butler, Sr. and Joy Ann Woodland Butler of Lutcher, LA. Her siblings consist of two brothers, Joseph Butler, Jr. and Jamal Amon Butler, Sr. of Lutcher, LA. JaVon was blessed to be the proud owner of Jasper Orion Butler, for 13 years, her spoiled West Highland White Terrier who passed away on July 13, 2014.

She is a graduate of Lutcher High School. She also attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana-USL located in Lafayette, LA (currently known as University of Lafayette). In Fall of 2001, JaVon received her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Political Science with the highest G.P.A. in the Political Science Department; she also earned a minor in Psychology from Southern University A & M College in Baton Rouge, LA. In Summer of 2004, JaVon received her Master of Public Administration with a concentration in Public Policy from Southern University A& M College.

Throughout her years, JaVon has given her life to her contention, “We Serve God Through Serving Others.” She has devoted her life to being a Servant of God. As God has graced and gifted her, she has been given the opportunity to execute those gifts at her local church, Greater King Triumph Baptist Church of Lutcher, LA. Presently, JaVon serves as the Youth Director, Sunday School Teacher for Adults/Youths, Senior Choir Member, and direct & write monologues and plays for different occasions. She has spoken at several different church events and has inspired many young people to live for Christ. JaVon has always displayed a passion for Youth Ministry. In JaVon’s community involvement, she has served her community as the Former St. James Parish NAACP President. She served two terms equaling 4 years. During her tenure, the St. James Parish NAACP Chapter, #6315 was revitalized and restructured to serve the citizens of St. James Parish. Her greatest accomplishment was bridging the gap between the residents of the east and west banks of the Mississippi River.
