ABC's "THE VIEW" UNDER FIRE FOR BLEEPING OUT THE NAME OF JESUS

The ABC network is facing backlash from Christians who were offended by its decision to bleep out "Jesus" each time "The View" co-host Paula Faris said His name on the show last Friday.

The hosts of the talk show were discussing the results of a British poll The Christian Post reported on that found most Britons believe only six of the Ten Commandments are relevant today.

During the ladies' discussion, Faris spoke about her upbringing and said she was taught by her parents to not use the Lord's name in vain.

"My parents were really strict about what we said in the home. We couldn't say 'Oh my God.' We couldn't say J.C. We couldn't say [bleeped out]," Faris said during the show. "We could say 'Jeez' ... unless you were praising Him, and then you could say, [bleeped out]."

It was clear the words bleeped out were Jesus Christ and Jesus.

Unaware she was being censored, Faris continued and said she implements the same restrictions in her family. She then went on to say that regardless of the controversy surrounding the Commandments, the Bible remains relevant.

"The great thing about the Bible and God is the same yesterday, today and forever," Faris declared, citing the verse found in Hebrews 13:8 of the Bible, which reads, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

The decision to bleep the name of "Jesus Christ" led a number of commentators and bloggers to question ABC.

"Woah. Are they really censoring the word Jesus? America is so weird," one person said in a video commentary posted on YouTube.

Another viewer asked: "Why are they bleeping out Jesus? It's a NAME for heavens sake! If they were to say something about Satan they wouldn't bleep that out."

Perhaps the network took caution because the name was part of a discussion about using the Lord's name in vain. But some viewers were offended because Faris also talked about worshiping Jesus and His name was still bleeped out.

This is not the first time "The View" has bleeped out Jesus' name. A similar issue took place during an episode in 2002 when co-host Joy Behar said she was ending a vigorous diet, "Thank you, thank you, Jesus is all I have to say." Her words were aired live but when ABC broadcast a taped version of the show for the West Coast "Jesus" was edited out.

According to ABC spokeswoman Julie Hoover, that use "ran afoul of a particular standard the network adheres to. ABC has no problem with Jesus' name if it is used in a 'prayerful and respectful manner," she said. "But ABC does not allow Jesus' name to be used in an exclamation."
